Antbear Eco Lodge is a one of a kind luxury lodge – situated in the Giant’s Castle region of the Drakensberg.
Owned and run by Andrew and Connie Attwood, they have realised their dream of a sustainable lifestyle. Having lived in Germany and enjoyed many adventurous travel experiences they returned to South Africa to a gentler lifestyle. Aiming for this, the result is the development of Antbear Lodge.
The life blood of Antbear Lodge is responsible tourism. All the furniture is handmade on the property. The buildings are built from sun dried bricks, rammed earth, cob and locally sourced stone.
Antbear Lodge is self-sustaining. They grow their own vegetables, eggs from their chickens, milk their cows, make yoghurt and cheese, and artisan bread. They train and employ local people who have previously had no work experience or training.
Antbear Lodge offers accommodation to suit all possibilities.
Pets are welcome and two of the suites have fenced gardens so your pets are safe and can run freely. You can even bring your own horse along!
There is a luxury eco cave built under a rock, where glass doors open onto a deck with an amazing view. Cosy and comfortable the cave has a rocked in jacuzzi spa bath and an adjoining lounge with open fireplace. The cave is beautifully private and ideal as a honeymoon suite.
There are also mountain view and garden view suites complete with lounge, wood burning fire place, covered deck and jacuzzi spa bath.
