A guide to picking the perfect colour wedding dress
With so many brides striving to make their wedding as unique and glamorous as possible, it is no wonder that the colourful wedding dress is in vogue.
International and local designers are exploring wedding dress design and are introducing more colour options into their wedding collections. Wedding dresses on the catwalks exhibit more colour and embellishment such as – soft pinks, dusty blues and floral patterned fabrics.
Brides are no longer left with the limited choice of white or ivory for their wedding dress. They realise that they can be expressive and show off their personal style by being more adventurous with their colour choice.
Celebrity brides such as Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightly, Jessica Beal and Reese Witherspoon all opted to wear colourful wedding dresses on their special day.
Here are a few of the latest colourful wedding dress trends to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.
Pastel shades
Go classic colourful with pastel shades inspired by designers such as Monique Lhuillier and Jenny Packham. Think in the line of dusty pinks, dreamy blues and earthy nudes. The whole dress doesn’t have to be one colour, why not layer white tulle over a soft base colour, to create an ethereal look. Soft champagnes and blush tones are also good options for complimenting skin tones.
Steely grey
Metallic and steely grey shades have seen a rise in popularity, due to their versatility. Metallics are not necessarily dark shades but can be light too, think of soft dove grey or lavender grey shades. Grey shades can complement beautiful details such as- embellishments, crystal beading and intricate embroidery.
Embroidery
Thanks to designers such as Erdem and Claire Pettibone, embroidery covered silks and tulle dominate the wedding dress collections of 2018. Beautiful, detailed embroidery such as flowers, leaves and fauna scattered over layers of sheer tulle, give the bride a fantastical air, bringing to mind a forest sprite. Embroidered wedding dresses can be any colour as long as the embroidery is colourful and feminine. Think of green and pink embroidery on black; or pink, blue and green embroidery on white.
Colourful dresses offer a variety of creative and exciting options for your wedding. The possibilities are endless and no matter which style you go for you it will definitely fullfil your desire to be unique and expressive on your special day.
