Industrial Chic Wedding ideas for modern couples

The Industrial chic wedding trend

The Industrial theme is the biggest trend to enter the wedding scene this year. The Urban-warehouse look, first entered our homes in 2014 and from there inspired the décor for restaurants, shops, bars, boutiques and now weddings.

With so many exciting Industrial and urban styled wedding venues popping-up in cities all over South Africa, there is no reason not to opt for an Industrial chic wedding.

Decorating the Industrial venue

When choosing your venue, look for an industrial space that has been renovated for the purpose of holding functions. For instance a revamped loft, re-purposed factory, urban roof garden or spacious warehouse.

Exposed bricks and roof beams are the required look. There is no need for last minute faffing with white draping or wall decorations to cover up the unsightly walls. The idea is to leave the warehouse or industrial space bare and only add the essentials- such as interesting lighting, beautiful flower arrangements, green foliage and fairy lights.

All the décor can be paired down for the modern minimalist effect- wooden tables, white table cloths, glamorous candle holders and beautiful bouquets will complement the stark setting.

Another good factor when opting for an industrial wedding is that you don’t have to worry about any colour clashes. Most industrial spaces have a neutral colour palette of white, black, brown and charcoal grey. This means that any colours you choose will only brighten and soften the space.

To complement the theme- use chalkboards as menus. Pair craft cocktails with signature martinis to give the occasion that sophisticated urban air.

Geometric shaped candles, plant holders and vases will also add a touch of urban chic to the occasion.

The Industrial bride and groom

Brides can opt for a more contemporary and bold wedding look. They can achieve this by incorporating urban chic elements into their dress, shoes and jewellery. A white jumpsuit paired with emerald, statement earrings and studded wedding heels, would fit the occasion perfectly. Alternatively you could wear an elegant column dress with jewel encrusted heels. Grooms can opt for a charcoal grey or black three piece suit.

Be creative with fairy lights, hang them vertically on the walls or create heart shaped lights.  To really shake things up add a non- traditional wedding arch made from old fashioned Edison bulbs, which will really add to the urban glam.
