Mexican inspired wedding
Ever thought of having a Mexican themed wedding, why not take inspiration from the much celebrated, flower-crown wearing, Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.
Well known for her daring and provocative self-portraits and use of bold and vibrant colours, Frida is a fashion role model and universally loved.
In her self-portraits, she would often be wearing flower-crowns, be dressed in colourful Mexican style garments and be surrounded by fauna and flora.
Her paintings often included exotic floral designs and patterns, which symbolised her personal story.
With an exhibition of the iconic artist’s artefacts and clothes, currently on at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, she is once again the talk of the town.
Being the creative, witty, talented and inspirational person that she was, means you will not be short of interesting and beautiful ideas for your wedding.
Here are a few Frida Kahlo inspired wedding ideas for a Mexican wedding theme.
Floral crown and bouquet
When it comes to the flowers and bouquet, go bold and bright. Fuschia peonies, bright yellow marigolds, blue hydrangea and deep purple Cala lilies will go perfectly with a white lace wedding dress. A beautiful floral flower crown will also compliment any bride.
The flowers on the tables can also be colourful, dotted with fun Mexican elements such as colourful candles and mini piñatas.
Mexican menu
For appetizers, serve mini-tacos and guacamole, shrimp and avocado ceviche and beef empanadas. For the mains try grilled achiote chicken and shredded beef enchiladas served with Fiesta salad.
Go wild and be really creative with a Mexican inspired drinks menu. Serve signature margaritas with fresh lime and salt rims or have a tequila cocktail bar.
The Cake
When it comes to the cake, think eclectic. You can either opt for colourful floral detail with fresh flowers or a Mexican textile design. With Frida as your inspiration you could go jungle-tastic and decorate your cake with jungle and flower motifs.
Playful decorations
A Mexican inspired wedding will give you tons of exciting ideas for your table and overall wedding decorations. Everyone loves a piñata at a party, so why not give each guest a mini piñata, filled with sweets.
Papel picado flags are the colourful, cut-out tissue paper flags that adorn fiestas. Hung as garlands they are the perfect decoration for your wedding. Personalise your Papel picado with wedding messages, the bride and grooms name and the wedding date.
With so many interesting and original ideas, have fun planning your Mexican themed wedding.
